Guardian Home Program
What is a Guardian Home and why might we use them? We believe that dogs in breeding programs should live their best lives; this means being in a home with a reasonable number of dogs, having a limited number of litters and not being rehomed. Since all of our dogs are lifelong members of our family and live in our home, we limit the number of dogs we have in order to ensure each one receives all of the attention they deserve.
To achieve these goals, we may occasionally place male breeding prospects with a trusting, caring Guardian Home. We ask the Guardian Home to partner with us to ensure the dogs are happy, safe, and well taken care of as puppies and throughout the life of the dog.
The families have the dog as their pet with a contract that we will utilize them for our breeding program for a stated time period after 2 years of age should they successfully pass their health testing and have suitable conformation and temperament. Genetic disorder screening and Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) testing for hips, elbows, eyes and heart will be covered by our program.
Families must be local, utilize our veterinarian and plan to have the dog spend 2-3 days a month at our home so temperament and behavior can be assessed as the dog matures, and any training issues can be addressed. Additionally, Guardians who are going on vacation have the opportunity to board the dog at our home at no expense until the contract is completed.
